Energy Conservation Initiatives at the Nantong New Plant (China) Polyplastics Co., Ltd. / DP Engineering plastics (Nantong) Co., Ltd.
Polyplastics Co., Ltd. is taking on energy conservation initiatives at the new Nantong Plant (DP Engineering Plastics (Nantong) Co., Ltd.
In China, energy conservation measures are being promoted as a national project, and this is also required at a high level in investment projects such as plant construction.
We will share the initiatives of the new plant that can respond to these demands.
Main Initiatives
・Reducing power consumption throughout the plant by adopting high-efficiency motors and air-conditioning equipment
By using China’s energy-saving class-1 (most energy-efficient equipment) motors and air-conditioning equipment, the power consumption of the entire plant is reduced by 2-3%.
・Adopting high-quality metal materials to prevent process shutdown due to leakage
If metal materials that are outside of quality standards are used in equipment, which are widely distributed in the Chinese market, it could cause process shutdown due to leaks and cause significant energy consumption when the operation is restarted. To prevent these unnecessary processes shutdown or restart, we have adopted high-quality metal materials. In addition to the self-inspections by manufacturers before shipping, we conduct PMI inspections* at the construction site to confirm that the metal composition complies with the standards every time.
*PMI inspection: Testing to measure the ingredients of a product using a floating X-ray method

・Reduction of power energy consumption
We have adopted inverter-driven air compressors and cooling tower fans, which consume large amounts of electricity, for energy-efficient operation. We also optimize energy consumption by controlling the number of cooling tower fans, cooling water pumps, and chiller units in operation according to the load. In addition to this, we selected the most efficient models for pumps, fans, and other rotating equipment throughout the plant to ensure high-efficiency operation, reducing power energy consumption.
・Introduction of electric commuter buses
Two electric buses were introduced for employees to commute to work.
Each bus runs on approximately 45km one way, and it is expected to reduce CO2 emission by about 40 tons per year.
Currently, about 20% of employees working at the new plant are utilizing these buses, and we plan to introduce a third electric bus within the year.
We will continue to engage in environmentally friendly initiatives to reduce our environmental impact and manage our business in harmony with the environment.
